Updating iMessage version

I recently updated to Yosemite 10.10 on my MacbookAir but iMessage is still v8.0. How can I update this?

Hi,

History

iChat was only updated via Mac OS X updates from iChat 2 onwards.

This can mean it has to be very specific about which Updated version of iChat will work with the Mac OS update.

For Instance Leopard (OS X 10.5) gets to OS X 10.5.8 by the last Update.

At this point iChat is at version 4.0.9 (if you also did a standalone Security Update) in it's most readable place but can also read as version 4.0.8 in other places.

Messages which continues the same Numbering in Mountain Lion with version 7.x.x in OS X 10.8.x

At OS X 10.8.2 Messages becomes version 7.0.1 and it is after this point that the Serial Number is also used to identify the Machine as well as the User.

However In Mavericks and Yosemite Apple called both versions "Version 8"

Also there are no recorded Subset increases (There is no vers 8.0.1 and so on) in either OS.

This is despite there being changes to the App in both OS X versions.

This means that in Yosemite the version always appears to be version 8 with no other additional info.

It may show a Modified date which you may also see in the Combo Update page (or a date close to the release date depending on your Update history).

El Capitan's version 9 variants will not work in Yosemite.

However those versions do show subset numbers again
